Phil is an experienced psychologist with more than 25 years’ experience in a variety of therapeutic contexts. Working from a holistic therapeutic framework that incorporates a variety of evidence based therapeutic approaches, he believes that his clients are the experts of their own lives and he creatively facilitates their healing and growth towards their full potential. Phil specialises in mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders such as: Borderline Personality Disorder, Dissociative Identity Disorder, bereavement and grief, relationship counselling and family problems, eating disorders and assessments. Phil has a keen interest in the mental health of older people, providing assessment of memory functions and dementia and giving guidance and support to individuals who are diagnosed with dementia and their families. He is trained and experienced in family and relationship therapy. As a keen sportsman himself he is interested in Sport Psychological interventions for individuals and teams. He also assists individuals and sports people in the psychological management of injury rehabilitation.
Phil believes the creation of an emotionally safe therapeutic environment is essential for therapy to be beneficial to the client. Phil believes that therapy is an art and that, in therapy, he becomes the container of his client’s emotions.
